Grand Junction Utility Setup

Call in this order and you'll have power, water, trash, and internet running the day you unload the truck. Have your new address, move-in date, photo ID, and Social Security number ready — most providers ask for all four.

1. Electric and natural gas

Which electric provider serves you depends on the address, not the city limits. Xcel Energy covers much of Grand Junction; Grand Valley Power is the member-owned co-op serving many outlying and rural parts of the valley. Ask the seller, landlord, or your agent which one bills the property.

2. Water and sewer

Most valley homes get drinking water from Ute Water Conservancy District, while the City of Grand Junction handles sewer and city utility billing inside city limits.

3. Trash and recycling

Residential trash is handled by private haulers in most of the valley — you choose the company and the cart size.

4. Internet and TV

Availability is address-specific. Check the major providers with your exact new address before you commit to a plan, and book installation at least a week ahead of move-in — appointment windows fill fast during summer moving season.

Move-week timing

  • Two weeks out: schedule electric, gas, and water start dates and book internet installation.
  • One week out: confirm trash service start and set up online billing accounts.
  • Move day: verify power and water are live before the truck is unloaded, and photograph meter readings.
