Relocation Guide
Moving to Grand Junction, Colorado
Grand Junction is the hub of Mesa County and Colorado's Western Slope — high-desert sunshine, red-rock canyons, river trails, and a valley full of orchards and wineries. Here's what newcomers should line up before and after the truck arrives.
Why people move to the Grand Valley
Grand Junction pairs small-city pace with outdoor access most Front Range towns can't match: the Colorado National Monument, the Colorado River, the Grand Mesa, and Fruita's world-famous mountain biking are all inside a short drive. Winters are mild by Colorado standards, summers are hot and dry, and the valley averages far more sunny days than Denver.
Neighborhoods at a glance
- Downtown Grand Junction — walkable Main Street, restaurants, and historic homes.
- The Redlands — hillside views beneath the Monument; feeds Fruita Monument High School.
- Appleton & North GJ — established family streets close to shopping and hospitals.
- Fruitvale & Clifton — more affordable single-family options on the east side.
- Orchard Mesa — river-bend orchards with quick Riverside Parkway commutes.
- Fruita and Palisade — small towns 10–15 minutes out, each with its own character.
Schools and healthcare
Most of the valley is served by Mesa County Valley School District 51. Use the district's "Find My School" tool to confirm which elementary, middle, and high school an address feeds before you sign a lease or offer.
